My Drawing Skill...

Posted by 7swords - January 6th, 2010

Is bad, awful, crap, doodles, and anything else...

The story behind that is much lighter, OK my friends and i were in weight training fifth period, talking about collage, Digi-pen all the way (since we are all artist and animators) and such came up about art books, we have never seen each others before , Logins was pretty good, better than mine, but then my other other friend ,Diante, showed his and it scared me a little, his shit was PRO! lines=perfect, manga =perfect, shading perfect... he was so good he looked like one of the people they use to advertise art institutes, turns out he drew all during summer school and Math Class! 19 SS, and me a 15 sophomore naturally asked advise "how do you get the lighting on the nose?" he responded "noses are really hard, i learned through drawing a lot of people." That didn't help much...but then he said "don't worry, man, i couldn't draw faces until I was about 17, when you get older shit kinda just clicks in place..." So i tried to draw a face, a realism face, and found out i was bad., i have a natural talent for drawing, my grandma was a graphic designer (beautiful) and grandfather a sketch artist (accurate), but mine is just...unrefined...clumsy. Which is why i am making this post, I need help, not help via tutorials or just drawing a little each day. But by really studying and learning! filling up sketch pads is bad unless you know what you are doing. Using a tablet without knowing how to draw or paint a face was a terrible mistake, and nearly destroyed my own way of thinking. I need to start out small...
Professional levels of art
level 1 draw a real face (pencil)
level 2 draw a real full body (pencil)
level 3 paint a real face (preferably acrylic)
level 4 paint a real body ((preferably acrylic)
level 5 Create your own style
level 6 Repeat steps 1 through 4 on photoshop or any othe painting software
level 7 Animate what you made
level 8 model in a 3d program (there are too many so i'm not going to say any)
level 9 model a PERSON in a 3d program. (there are too many so i'm not going to say any)
level 10 get a job, become popular on Deviant art, i don't give a shit what you do, Level 10=rich

Picasso is an undisciplined child among real artist...

In order to do crawl the pathway of an artist, I must get level 1 and 2 down pat before a graduate high school in 30 months (2.5 years)

Which is why I am leaving Newgrounds for now. I'll be back at the end of the school year, maybe sooner depending on if i get an artistic Revelation and it all just "clicks and sticks"

So see ya, keep it real while I'm gone, Shadman
.

Edit:>wow i cant believe i posted something like this, thinking back now i do not regret it. Only now do I realize how shattered and childish my artistic vision is to a blank canvass...
I am young, yet my will is resolute. I WILL become better, and if I die trying,
then i die knowing i have still have more to learn...

i cant draw worth a shit, not even stick figures

nice lol, bet your good at something else tho

awwww! :(
does that mean you'll be gone for the whole time?
just remember to check in every now and then if that's what you mean!

i think you have a style all your own, but if you wanna get better, study to your heart's content!

You still respond fast, maybe because you east coast? or what?
Edit: gratz! ill check in from time to time!

First, you don't need to draw realistically to become big. Hell, look at the 30 Days of Night graphic novel. While I personally don't like the artwork, lots of people did, and it was enough to garner in a movie deal. So, you don't necessarily need realism, but more something that catches the eye.

As for any true tips. Couldn't help ya. I ain't that good myself, I always focused on writing rather than drawing. That's where my creative energy goes. Again though, my writing came with time and practice, and research, and reading. Wrapping words around the page the way I want them to, and stringing sentances across the paper to paint the picture I want the reader to know.

Enough about that though. From what I understand its similar with drawing. While you do need practice, always striving to improve yourself with each new drawing you do.

"This time I'll make the elbows better... this time I'll concentrate on the eyes." Always strive to improve one thing with each drawing. The only true tip I can give, if you do want to draw realism style pieces, draw circles for the eyes, then add the eyelids after. I tried it, and my eyes looked 20x better. Makes it easier to add eyebrows cause you know to put them above that circle (which is the eyesocket).

Realism is the most shocking style, has a kind of holy crap factor to it. Still, im better at real than cartoon'y or anime anyways.

PS: you write b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l-l-y and dont say you dont,

Im surprised your asking me to read your newspost. Have you seen my Art drawings on my UserAccount? Anyways the advice that the guy gave you, is heads on practice practice practice!! Srsly to become a good artist you need to do alot of repitition!

And be patient it requirs time to become good ;)

Thank you YouriX, keep it up with the music, your a good composer.

Lol. I've been told once that some of the best authors are really arrogant bastards. Well I'm arrogant enough about my writing to know I'm pretty good.

Ha! so true!, the act of being a writer is arrogant, superior intelligence via a mastery of words. Or you just want to share your ideas with the world, 89% Arrogant lol

This post has been edited by me for reasons even I do not not fully understand.

trivia: I got serious about art ever since i saw TheRealShadmans: William Wittcliff: Board Deck back in the middle of August 2009
While listening to Durns: Summer Solace at the same time. And made friends with both of them that same day, epic? Nope a common, every day thing, if you look around enough. People are all good at something,
Imagine the quiet girl in the back of your class, no one really talks to her, you don't talk to her, What will she be doing in 18 years? Answer: after finishing 6 years of med school, removing shrapnel from your son's heart after he crashes your car the night you lent it to him because his friends wanted to go to Jeremy's party...

Fact is often stranger than fiction, the world is what you make it to be...

Fact can easily become lost in the distorted swirl of fiction, and many can have trouble telling the two apart. What is real, what isn't? What strange things have rocked our world throughout the past? We don't even know the depths of our own oceans. Creatures still lurk in the blackest depths of the seas that we can't possibly fathom.

...
Well that was fucking random of me...

It wasn't random, it showed me that your good with poetry... and that I should have know better than to try to out word a worder...XP...you served it...<=P

I used to draw quite a fair bit. Loved Art in High School so I enrolled in Graphic Design at a College in the city. Ended up majoring in New Media (lol, what an old name for it, just like the program, it kinda stank) but still took a lot of the life drawing classes to help bone up my skills.

And that's really, I think, one of the best ways to improve drawing realistically. Enroll yourself in a life-drawing class, maybe your local library or art store offers one. Especially, try to find one that uses real models. Generally, the teacher will provide the knowledge of how to properly proportion bodies, while seated/standing, etc.

I can't actually remember the formula anymore, :P heh, been a while since I've used that skill. But the greatest thing about the class setting is that you can compare works and ask people how they achieved what they did. :) Instant feedback like that's even better than NG reviews. :)

Thanks for your advise, i'll keep it in mind.

Well i understand you as an artist myself the necessity to improve and develope as an artist.
Be patient with yourself, thats something you will need because no one starts out drawing masterpieces.
Dont worry if at first you dont get it right, just keep trying and critically look at what you can improve, but dont butcher yourself either.
Try a lot of different materials and papers to see what you naturally are good at, because maybe you are not good with pencil but you are a master with pastels, you know what i mean?
A tip i will give you that actually i am doing myself is , keep yourself constantly drawing or doing any type of art , so that way you improve faster and you inspiration does not go away.
Not to brag here but i know how to shade pretty decently and i know how to use my pencils ,so if you ever find yourself stuck or need tips in shading feel free to ask me for advice.
well hopefully im able to help you out one way or the other but in the end is up to you .good luck!!!

Shading kills me outright...thanks for your advise
